In 1982, Sundance spiritually awakened with Satoshi (Osho) and Sunyata named the Rare Born Mystic by his friend Ramana Maharshi. In 1986, Katie radically and spontaneously awakened without practices or spiritual teachers. Spirituality, Enlightenment and Satsang Teacers, Sundance and Katie met in 1988 and they spent twelve years integrating the profound realization.

In 1998, they became close friends with Eckhart Tolle, who invited them to share the teachings. Sundance and Katie offered six week seminars of Eckhart's teachings and the teachings of Ramana Maharshi on enlightenment. When The Power of Now published, they were invited to travel with Eckhart for two months on his first Power of Now Tour.

In 2004, Eckhart Tolle directly encouraged them to write their books, Awake Joy by Katie and Free Spirit by Sundance. They moved from Seattle to Maui to write. As spiritual teachers, they travel worldwide offering Awake Joy and Free Spirit Talks in gatherings or satsang intensives, weekend retreats and silent retreats.
